Expansion and new routes: the current situation at "GIUSEPPE VERDI" airport

The 2016-2020 strategic plan of the airport’s managing company involved the extension of the runway, construction of new warehouses, hangars and car parks as well as links with other infrastructure.

It was not until 2019 that work began on extending the runway: from 3rd to 15th November of that year, the airport closed to allow the initial work to begin. The extension work should start in 2020 and be completed by 2022. The airport has been at risk of closure for several years due to continuous financial losses but this has recently been averted thanks to an increase in capital from the Parma Union of Industrialists, to secure Parma airport’s future in view of new national and international flights.
